3. The process of applying for a visa to visit relatives
Step 1: Apply for a letter of entry to visit relatives
In Vietnam, this is the first important step you need to take when applying for a Vietnam visa. Dossier to apply for an entry letter must be submitted at the Immigration Department. If the application is valid, you will receive an approval letter from the Immigration Department or a Vietnam Immigration Official Letter. This official letter needs to be scanned in its entirety to send to the sponsored person abroad so that he or she can stamp a visa to visit relatives when entering Vietnam.
Step 2: Paste visa to visit relatives in Vietnam
Foreigners will come to receive visas to visit relatives in Vietnam at:
- Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate abroad, or

4.1. In case a foreigner who is holding a Vietnam visa sponsors his or her relatives to apply for a visa to visit relatives in Vietnam
- An application for a visa to visit relatives in Vietnam;
- Passport of the guarantor (valid for more than 6 months and must have at least 2 blank pages);
- A copy of the guarantor's valid passport and visa/temporary residence card;
- Papers proving family relationship such as: birth certificate for children, parents, marriage registration certificate for husband and wife, household registration book, etc. (Must be consular legalized and notarized translation according to regulation);
- Records of the guarantee company where the sponsor is working, including:
- Notarized copy of business registration certificate or investment certificate or representative office establishment license
- Notarized copy of seal specimen registration certificate and tax registration certificate.
- A letter of introduction to the person who goes through the procedures of applying for a visa at the Immigration Office.
4.2. In case a Vietnamese citizen sponsors a foreigner relative to apply for a visa to visit Vietnam
- An application for a visa to visit relatives in Vietnam;
- Passport of the guarantor (valid for more than 6 months and must have at least 2 blank pages);
- A notarized copy of the guarantor's identity card;
- A notarized copy of the guarantor's household registration;
- Notarized copies of documents proving family relationships such as birth certificates for children, parents, marriage certificates for husband and wife, household registration book, etc.
